Polycarbonate glazing for vehicles
Extremely resistant, polycarbonate offers many advantages for high-risk environments. Cleargard®, Plastrance polycarbonate glazing is favoured for use in the automotive, forestry and agricultural sectors, as well as for street furniture, emergency and law enforcement vehicles, electric vehicles and sports vehicles.
Polycarbonate glazing for vehicles and cabins offers a number of technical advantages:
- Lightweight: Approximately 50% lighter than glass, enabling significant weight savings in vehicles or structures.
- Temperature Resistance: Withstands temperatures from -40°C to +120°C (or higher depending on the formulation).
- High Transparency: Light transmission of up to 89%, comparable to glass, with excellent optical clarity.
- Unbreakable: Tested for FOPS Levels 1 & 2 (ISO 3449) and saw chain approved.
- Easy to Convert: Thermoforms, bends, molds, or laminates easily, giving you total design freedom.
- Energy Efficiency: Reduced CO₂ emissions thanks to the lightness of the material.
- Certification: Can be UN R43 certified.
- Design Freedom: Total design flexibility with low investment in molds and tooling.
- Eco-Friendly: Environmentally friendly and reusable.
- Customizable Thickness: Available in multiple thicknesses to suit your application.
To guarantee top quality, our PC glazing is coated with an anti-abrasion, anti-UV, anti-graffiti and anti-corrosion coating.
Advantages of tailor-made polycarbonate glazing:
- Virtually unbreakable: Does not shatter like glass
- Safe: Recommended for applications where personal protection is essential (glazing, armouring, machine guards)
- Versatile: suitable for complex shapes and angles, confined spaces and a wide variety of colours
- Recyclable: Compatible with sustainability and circular economy initiatives
- Electrical insulator: interesting dielectric properties for electronics
Our Cleargard® polycarbonate safety glazing is specifically designed for demanding professional applications: forestry and agricultural machinery, police and emergency vehicles, electric vehicles, racing vehicles and urban transport.
Standard polycarbonate
Standard polycarbonate is particularly suitable for forestry and agricultural machinery, emergency vehicles and electric vehicles. With 250 times the strength of glass, it provides effective protection against flying branches, stones and debris.
Technical specifications:
- Thickness: 5 to 10 mm depending on the application
- Approval: UN R43 for automotive use
- Impact resistance: 900 J/m
- 50% lighter than glass of the same thickness
UV-resistant polycarbonate
UV-resistant polycarbonate is essential for construction machinery, agricultural machinery and forestry vehicles that are constantly exposed to outdoor conditions. 99.9% UV protection guarantees durable glazing without yellowing, ideal for:
- Agricultural, forestry and construction machinery: maintaining transparency in extreme weather conditions
- Emergency vehicles: maintaining optical properties in all situations
- Racing cars: excellent optical quality while optimising weight
For buses, trams and urban transport vehicles, anti-UV treatment preserves the visual quality necessary for passenger safety.
Abrasion-resistant polycarbonate
Abrasion-resistant polycarbonate is essential for police and emergency vehicles exposed to urban aggression. With a pencil hardness rating of 4H, it resists scratches and repeated impacts.
Validated performance tests:
- Chemical protection: Resistance to solvents and chemicals
- Anti-graffiti: Surface treated against damage
For motor sports, abrasion-resistant polycarbonate offers ballistic protection while maintaining perfect visibility. Racing vehicles benefit from resistance to high-speed debris impacts.
For use on forestry machinery, all our glazing is validated by the chainsaw test according to the most stringent standards
Laminated polycarbonate
Laminated polycarbonate combines the advantages of polycarbonate with a multi-layer structure offering exceptional levels of safety. Available in standard, UV-resistant and abrasion-resistant versions according to specific requirements.
Critical applications:
- Armoured police vehicles: Certified ballistic protection
- Ambulances and emergency vehicles: Enhanced safety for crews
- Electric vehicles: Protection and energy efficiency
- Motor sports: safety and lightness
Certifications
- R43 approval: European automotive compliance
- FOPS test (ISO 3449): Protection against falling objects, levels 1 and 2
