Innovative plastic coatings for unrivalled performance
Polycarbonates are amorphous thermoplastics with a very low crystal content (generally less than 5%). Because of this structure, they offer excellent transparency, optical quality and flexibility, but can have certain limitations, such as limited resistance to scratches, abrasion and UV rays.
Applying specialised protective coatings to a product overcomes these drawbacks, considerably improving the polycarbonate’s performance. Coatings provide additional properties, such as increased resistance to impact, corrosion, chemicals, wear and tear, and improved durability in the face of UV exposure, while preserving the lightweight glazing properties and optical clarity of the material. Coatings can also add colour, gloss, anti-reflective properties or a special texture.
Finally, some coatings add specific properties, such as electrical conductivity, EMI shielding or thermal resistance. The excess thickness due to the coating is very low, guaranteeing minimal change to the dimensions of the product.
